Forest School Important Information

Clothing
Your child will need a waterproof jacket, trousers and footwear on their Forest School days.
We recommend separate waterproof items rather than overalls, so children can go to the toilet independently. Ideally, these items should be slightly oversized to allow for extra layers in colder months. Brands to consider include, Muddy puddles, Didriksons and Terrex (for footwear). Below are some links for you – although, with sustainability in mind, it’s always worth looking for second-hand items.
For footwear, we recommend waterproof walking shoes or wellington boots. We advise ensuring the size allows enough space for thicker socks. In colder weather your child will need mittens (rather than gloves) and a warm hat. Base layers, such as merino, are best to keep warm.
After the spring holidays, on dry days, your child will need sunscreen applied. During hot weather your child will also need a sunhat.
Please ensure that all your child’s clothing is labelled with their name.
Lunch
Your child will need a packed lunch in a comfortable backpack on Forest School days. RSG provides
water and a snack.
For those of you whose children receive V&Me lunches, we will inform them not to provide lunch on Forest School days. If, for any reason, your child does not attend their Forest School session, but does attend pre-school that day, you will need to provide them with a packed lunch.
Parent involvement
Parents are encouraged to attend a Forest School session with their child. If you are able to, please speak to the Lead educator at your child’s centre.
